Emergency Protocols & Other Procedures

Evacuation

Whisky Jack Suite (Suite #1)

The nearest exit is out your front door and up the stairs. If this area is blocked, you can exit with caution out a window from either bedroom or the sliding glass door to the deck. If an alarm sounds, even if you suspect it’s a drill, begin moving to the closest exit. Before opening the door, you should feel it for heat and look for smoke coming underneath the door. Barring any smoke or flames you should exit via the safest, shortest route possible. If there’s heavy smoke, you should stay low to the ground.

Southern Comfort (Suite #2)
The nearest exit is out your sliding glass door, which is the safest, shortest route possible. If this area is blocked, you can exit with caution through the stairwell. There is also an emergency exit in the bedroom with the queen bed (on North East wall). Remove the wooden bar from in front of the wooden door, open the door and exit to the exterior of the building. If an alarm sounds, even if you suspect it’s a drill, begin moving to the closest exit. Before opening the stairwell door, you should feel it for heat and look for smoke coming underneath the door. If there’s heavy smoke, you should stay low to the ground.

Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers can be found under the kitchen sink.

Hot Tub

  • No glass in the hot tubs – you can find plastic drink ware in the kitchen cupboards.
  • Babies, Pregnant Women
    • Age Limit: Children under the age of 5 years should not use hot tubs. This is because young children can overheat more quickly than adults. Your child should also be tall enough to stand in the center of the hot tub and still keep her head above the water to help prevent drowning.
    • Overheating: If your child is old enough to be in a hot tub, you still need to prevent him from becoming overheated. If he is overheated, his heart may begin to race. High temperatures can cause drowsiness, unconsciousness, heat stroke or death. Keep the temperature in the hot tub below 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and do not allow your child to be in the hot tub without adult supervision.
    • Spending 10 minutes or more in a hot tub can raise your body temperature to 102 F (38.9 C), causing a condition known as hyperthermia. Some studies have shown an increased risk of miscarriage and neural tube defects — serious abnormalities of the brain or spinal cord — in the babies of women who experience high temperatures during the first four to six weeks of pregnancy. If you might be pregnant and plan to use a hot tub, or you choose to use a hot tub during pregnancy, take these steps to reduce the risks:
      • Limit time in the hot tub to less than 10 minutes.
      • Avoid sitting near the inlet that provides newly heated water.
      • Avoid spending time in the hot tub once a week or more.
      • Get out of the hot tub if you start to sweat or feel any discomfort.
      • Stay out of the hot tub if you aren’t in good health or you already have an elevated temperature due to fever, exercise, or previous hot tub or sauna use.
      • Please shower before use. Products like skin creams, deodorants, etc…will alter the clarity of the hot tub. Also, detergents found in clothing will contribute

  • Hot Tub Care: Checking and Tuning the Tub
    • It is important to maintain the proper level of disinfectant to ensure a clean and safe hot tub. We use chlorine and bromine to disinfect. Both chlorine and bromine kill viruses and bacteria. However, they also react with organic material in the water including: dirt, soap, shampoo, body oils, perspiration, food and drinks. The more hot tubs are used, the faster the disinfectant in the water gets used.
    • Make sure to frequently check the level of chlorine ad bromine in the water, and add more if required. Your host will go over this with you.
    • The level of disinfectant in your hot tub should be measured daily.
    • Use a test kit – follow the instructions that come with the test kit. Here is how to respond to a specific reading (test result).

Front Door & Key

  • Front door (from top deck leading into stairwell) code: check with your hosts
  • You will find keys for your suite just inside your suite door, which will be unlocked for you upon your first arrival.
